Qualifications open doors
Congratulations to Scot Gray – Faced with the constant living away from home in search of work and the need to work under an umbrella organisation brought about through IR35 he recognised that he needed to gain a formal qualification to give himself more prospects.
He commenced the Level 3 MME qualification whilst working at Hornsey depot and has worked away from home for many years. Achieving the qualification allowed him to look for work close to home and have the confidence to apply with the required qualification sought after by every rail depot.
Having received his certificate in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering he has been able to not only find a job local to his home address but also gained a promotion in recognition for his leadership skills. Well done Scot.Challenge of education
Recognising skills
Congratulations to Olu Kolawole – Faced with the ever increasing pressure of work and job prospects within all sectors, brought about through IR35 he recognised that he needed to gain a formal qualification.
He commenced the Level 3 MME qualification during the Covid-19 restrictions and despite having English as an additional language, contact with the assessor was regular and helpful. This enabled him to complete it with an element of tenacity, a logical approach and professional discussion about the current role within this safety critical industry.
Having received his certificate in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering he has been able to attract interest in his skills and financial recognition that not only benefits him but also his family in these days of austerity.

JMA Training offers Driver training through DfE funded provision. Chris H from Cheshire described his experience as ‘excellent’. This learner successfully passed his Class 2 driving licence and relevant Module 4 training, due to his lack of class 2 experience he found it more suitable to work with agencies in order to gain regular work and build his tachograph hours. With regards to a distance travelled Chris demonstrates this fully, he has fulfilled a short term goal and will continue to improve and progress.
